Pirates loved music. Seamen, who could play drums, bagpipes, violin,
keyboards or guitar or could sing well, were spared, when a ship was
taken. They struck up dancing tunes aboard, accompanied the meals
with dinner music, or played shanties to pacify the crew, when the
rum was running low. During battle they either played bellicose compositions
or just produced a hellish row to demoralize the enemy and inspire
the crew. |
